The Startup Journey: From MovieLaLa to RemoteTeam
Each of Sahin's startups represents a different chapter in his entrepreneurial evolution. MovieLaLa, his first venture, was a movie marketing platform that reached over 360 million people before being acquired by Gfycat. The experience of building a consumer-facing product at scale and navigating the acquisition process gave Sahin the foundational skills that would define his career.
MojiLaLa emerged from the explosive growth of messaging platforms and the demand for expressive digital communication. Under Sahin's leadership, it grew to become the second-largest sticker marketplace after Line, with stickers used more than 1.3 billion times. The platform demonstrated Sahin's ability to identify emerging consumer trends and build products that achieve viral adoption.
Leo AR was perhaps the most technically ambitious project — a consumer augmented reality app that pushed the boundaries of what was possible on mobile devices. Apple recognized its quality by featuring it over 100 times and selecting it as App of the Day dozens of times. Users created more than 10 million AR videos, proving that AR could be a mainstream consumer experience.
RemoteTeam represented a strategic pivot toward B2B SaaS, building HR infrastructure for the rapidly growing remote work movement. The company's acquisition by Gusto in 2021 — just 580 days after incorporation — was remarkable not only for its speed but for the fact that the entire process, from investor pitching to team hiring to M&A, was conducted entirely over Zoom with no in-person meetings.
Key Lessons from Building 4 Startups
Across four companies, Sahin has developed a distinctive approach to startup building. He emphasizes speed of execution, lean operations, and the importance of timing in market entry. His ability to pivot between consumer and enterprise products demonstrates a rare versatility among founders.
The progression from MovieLaLa to RemoteTeam also reflects a deepening understanding of what makes companies acquirable. Each successive venture was more capital-efficient and reached meaningful milestones faster, culminating in RemoteTeam's sub-two-year path to acquisition.
