Do Any Angel Investors Have 1000+ Deals?

Of six well-known angels checked on CB Insights, none tops 300 investments; the 1,000+ counts belong to firms like SV Angel. Why the numbers differ.

2026-01-291,098 words

Public data shows few, if any, individual angels with 1,000-plus investments. Lenny's Newsletter credits Edward Lando, Nadav Ben-Chanoch and their fund Pareto Holdings with 1,000-plus startups, and CB Insights counts 1,151 for the firm SV Angel, but the individuals listed here top out at 282. Counts differ sharply by source, so treat any 1,000-plus claim as fund-level until proven otherwise.

The phrase "super angel" suggests a person who has written a thousand checks. The data tells a different story. When you separate people from the firms they run, the highest count among the six individual profiles checked here is 282, and the four-figure numbers belong to funds, accelerators and holding companies. This page lays out the numbers from two named datasets, says how far they disagree, and explains why the gap matters when you size up an investor. Counts below are from CB Insights profiles as of October 2026 unless noted.

Does any angel investor have more than 1,000 investments?

Not on the evidence reviewed here. Lenny's Newsletter, built with Crunchbase data and published in December 2024, ranks Edward Lando and Nadav Ben-Chanoch of Pareto Holdings first among the most active US angels of the previous five years. It says Edward and their fund have invested in more than 1,000 startups, including over 25 unicorns, without splitting personal from fund deals. That is the only four-figure claim for a named individual in that list.

The other four-figure counts are firms. CB Insights shows 1,151 investments and 368 exits for SV Angel, and 9,523 investments for Y Combinator. Ron Conway, whose investing style SV Angel grew out of, is listed on his own CB Insights profile with 114. The same person produces a three-digit number or a four-digit one depending on whether the tracker counts the man or the firm.

How big are the biggest individual angel portfolios?

Ordered by their CB Insights counts as of October 2026, from the profiles listed here:

1

Naval Ravikant: 282 investments.

2

Elad Gil: 259.

6

Ron Conway: 114, with the profile's latest listed deal dated September 2024.

This is not a complete ranking of all angels, only of the people listed. For scale, I have made 234 angel investments as of October 2026, and Lenny's Newsletter ranked me the most active angel of 2024 and tenth over five years. Our own most active angel investors in 2024 and 2025 covers the wider field.

Why do the counts disagree so much?

Lenny's puts Charlie Songhurst at 500-plus companies since 2013. CB Insights shows 134 for him. It shows 61 for an entity named Pareto Holdings, against more than 1,000 in Lenny's account of Pareto and its founders. Several things explain gaps of that size:

Announced versus unannounced deals. Lenny's notes that many deals are never announced and that Crunchbase's data relies on public announcements and cap tables that investors volunteer.

People versus firms. A fund's count can include deals a partner never touched personally.

Companies versus rounds. Check whether a tracker counts each follow-on as a separate investment.

Stale profiles. Ron Conway's CB Insights page lists a latest deal in 2024, while other profiles show deals in October 2026.

Lenny's own caution applies to every number here: treat them as directional, not exact. If a figure matters to a decision, ask the investor for the list of companies.

How does an investor operate at 1,000 deals?

A person cannot lead, diligence and support a thousand companies, so the structure changes. SV Angel's own history page quotes Ron Conway describing an approach that is hyper-engaged, founder-focused and community-oriented, and says the team grew around helping founders when things get tough. That is the firm model: a team behind the name, not one person's calendar.

The earliest public record of Conway's angel activity is also a fund. In Google's 2004 IPO prospectus, a group of funds called Angel Investors, controlled by Ron Conway and two partners, held 830,736 shares.

For founders, the takeaway is that a super-angel count usually describes a platform. Ask who on the team will actually work with you, whether the firm reserves capital for follow-ons, and who will answer your calls in a hard quarter. For readers considering this path, solo angel versus fund investing and rolling funds versus traditional angel investing set out the trade-offs.

What does a high investment count tell you?

It tells you about activity, access and brand, and little else. None of the sources used here report returns, and a count says nothing about how much each investor helped, how large their checks were or how many companies survived. A high count can mean broad pattern recognition, but it can also mean thin attention per company.

A few ways to use the number sensibly:

Compare like with like. Use one tracker for every investor you compare, because the same person can show 134 or 500-plus.

Check recency. An investor with 300 total deals but nothing recent may not be active.

Ask about follow-ons. A volume investor who cannot lead your next round is an introduction, not a funding source.

Ask what they stopped doing. Focus is rare at high volume, so ask what they decline.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:Who has the most angel investments?

Among individuals, CB Insights shows Naval Ravikant at 282 as of October 2026, from the profiles listed on this page. Among firms, it shows SV Angel at 1,151 and Y Combinator at 9,523. Different trackers give different answers, so no single ranking is definitive.

Q:Does Ron Conway have more than 1,000 investments?

His firm SV Angel does, per CB Insights, which counts 1,151. His personal profile on the same tracker shows 114. The difference is the person-versus-firm distinction.

Q:Does a high investment count mean better returns?

No. Counts measure activity, not outcomes. None of the sources reviewed here report returns for these investors, so a count should not be read as a performance record.

Q:How many investments is a lot for an angel?

Among the six profiles reviewed here the highest individual count is 282, though Lenny's Newsletter puts Charlie Songhurst at 500-plus startups and Nat Friedman at 100-plus, so the answer depends on the source. The four-figure counts in these sources belong to firms.
